Where are all the skiers

This web cam image taken in Les Gets today has prompted us to ask "Where have all the skiers gone"

Les Gets 26th March 2012

At the Hotel Christiania in Les Gets we have space next week from the 2nd of April, a three night stay is available for 199€ per person and a five night stay is available for 299€ per person.

We also have one room free from the 7th to the 14th of April. This room is covered by the Children stay for 85€ for up to 7 nights offer.

Fresh snow means fresh bookings

The UK based staff at the Hotel Christiania UK booking office did not need to check the webcams to know that it had been snowing in Les Gets on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning as the phones were ringing all day yesterday.

We guess that a lot of people use the Webcam page on our website and after yesterday fall of snow a lot of the rooms for Easter are now already booked. If your thinking of a family ski trip at Easter book now before it's too late.

Les Gets Snow conditions

At this time of year our office in Scotland gets a lot of questions on the snow conditions in Les Gets. This morning the depth on the upper slopes is 190cm and snow at the top of the Portes du Soleil ski area has a depth of 260cm. There is still 65cm of snow at resort level and remember you can ski to the door of the Christiania in Les Gets.


The weather is great here in Les Gets today and the ski conditions are a lot of fun. if you want to see the conditions have a look at our webcam page on this link. The Piste Bashing team is doing a wonderful job keeping the pistes in perfect condition –nice and smooth. Now all the half term weeks are over the slopes are back to their normal peaceful selves with barely a lift queue to be seen.

The sun here is very enjoyable especially at lunch times sitting out in the sun with a good tartiflette! The bowl was in fantastic form yesterday and we all enjoyed the views of Mont Blanc from the top of the Rosta lift and the Eglantine red run down was a real buzz!

With light winds, plenty of sunshine and cold temperatures at night this really is a perfect week to be skiing. The wonderfully clear weather will also provide us with some fantastic views of the mountains around us with the Point Percé and the Mont Blanc range looking particularly spectacular.

This week there are a lot of events happening in Les Gets, with a choice of  live street music, chocolate workshops , the weekly ice party, ESF’s amazing torch lit descent (with Vin Chaud and Hot Chocolate provided!), the morning market on Thursday and even a Tea Dance!!!

Next week we have the Ebouelle Freestyle Ski and Snowboard Contest with art and live music concerts on the 21st and Rock the Pistes Festival from the 24th to the 28th. We are definitely having a lot of fun here both on the slopes and après!

After a few days of light snow the sun is back out today in Les Gets and its set to be clear and cold for the next 10 days.

Les Gets Weather

It's certainly getting warmer in Les Gets this week, with freeze, thaw conditions every day. While its currently 4 degree in the village, its forecast to drop to -11 tonight so its still very much the winter season.

Piste conditions remain very good and you certainly need to remember to bring your sun screen if your coming to Les Gets in the next few days.

February conditions in Les Gets

Following yesterdays snow Les Gets and the Portes su Soleil open the month with excellent conditions as can be seen from these images from the Les Gets and Hotel Christiania web cams taken this afternoon at 1.30pm local time.

The resort staff report 85cm of snow at the door of the hotel at 1172m, 185cm at the mid point of 1500m and 210cm at the summit of 1800m.

Conditions remain good all over the Portes du Soleil and this is certainly a good year to be in the Alps
