The unfortunate accident at the weekend in Les Gets where two children who were sledging on the Turche piste front at 7 pm collided with the back of a piste basher shows what can happen when visitors to Les Gets do not stick to the rules.
In all French ski resorts it is a by-law offence to be on the pistes after 17:55, the time at which piste grooming normally starts.
The 5 year old boy was helicoptered to a hospital in Grenoble whilst the 7 year old girl was taken to hospital in Thonon les Bains and its being reported that while the injuries are serious they are now not life threatening.
Due to the high level of snow this winter and the gradual warming of conditions last week there also remains a high risk of avalanche in some South facing slopes. Please take care when skiing off piste.

Fifth & final play off match for Morzine Penguins on Saturday
The Morzine Avoriaz Penguins were triumphant in Wednesday’s play off match against Gap in Marseille. This was the fourth match of five and brings the score to 2-2, meaning the fifth and final match, played at home on Saturday, will be the decider.
If you are in Les Gets today then why not head down to the Skoda Arena in Morzine tonight to support the local team? The winner will face Chamonix in the quarter finals, also a best of 5 games play off
Tickets are priced at 15 euros for adults and 10 for children. For more information or to book visit the Penguins' official site.

March Skiing
So many great ski holidays at the Hotel Christiania in Les Gets are missed out on because too many people think that ski season ends when March rolls in. Even though this may be true in terms of some of the lower altitudes, the Les Gets resort is quite close to Mt. Blanc and it benefits from this proximity with a micro-climate all its own. During this time ski season is actually wonderful because there is sufficient snow cover between Christmas and Easter. As this picture taken in Les Gets yesterday shows we still have lots of snow with clear blue skies.
If you have never been to Les Gets its great place for your family ski holiday from restaurants near the slopes to pubs and bars, grills, pizzerias and brassieres, a Les Gets ski holiday will not see you go hungry. There are also a good number of shops where you can find souvenirs as well as shops in which to hire equipment. A few ardent skiers that come back yearly may have their own equipment but others need to rely on hiring equipment during their stay here in Les Gets.
It is true that we are nearing the end of the ski season even in the French Alps but it is not too late to take advantage of some amazing deals and enjoy a bit of time away from the everyday monotony of the workday life. There is no lovelier scenery on earth and while the weather is not too awfully cold the snow cover is still sufficient for some amazing lessons from expert British instructors. You may be spending your holiday in France and French may be the language used about town, but you can be confident that your ski lessons will be taught in English. When in Les Gets, ski by day and play by night. Isn’t this what a ski holiday is all about after all?
